Readers Say

I LOVE Homeschooling Today! I've tried other homeschooling magazines and this is by far my favorite. It is a good mix of practical ideas and inspirational articles. I'm saving my current issue to read on our drive to vacation. It's really hard to keep from reading it right now. Thank you for a great magazine.

Let's Talk

Choose a large, clear image of an animal to draw 1 2 3.

Teach your children to crochet. Or here

Teach your children the song "Goober Peas".

Build a simple birdfeeder.

Attract birds to your yard and garden for year-round enjoyment by
making a simple bird feeder with a plastic milk jug. Use a
utility knife to cut a window out of the jug about two inches up
from the bottom. Poke several small holes in the bottom for
drainage. Add a small stick below the window for a perch for
birds to stand on.

In addition to putting seed in feeders, drop several handfuls of
seed on the ground for the ground feeding birds.

To make special bird treats, gather large pinecones, roll the
cones in honey or peanut butter and then shake them in a bag full
of birdseed.

Make Valentines with your children.

Teach your children all the words to "Yankee Doodle".

(1.) Yankee Doodle went to town riding on a pony;

Stuck a feather in his cap and called it macaroni.

Yankee Doodle, keep it up, Yankee Doodle dandy,

Mind the music and the step, and with the girls be handy.

(2.) Father and I went down to camp along with Captain Gooding

And there we saw the men and boys as thick as hasty pudding

Yankee Doodle, keep it up, Yankee Doodle dandy,

Mind the music and the step, and with the girls be handy.

(3.) There was Captain Washington upon a slapping stallion

A-giving orders to his men, I guess there was a million

Yankee Doodle, keep it up, Yankee Doodle dandy,

Mind the music and the step, and with the girls be handy.

Print the 99 chart and use it to count and skip count.  Use it also to introduce basic addition and addition with carrying.
