Pilgrim's Progress
The Pilgrim’s Progress: From This World to That Which Is to Come by John Bunyan, edited by C.J. Lovik and with illustrations by Michael Wimmer is an updated text edition of the familiar and much-loved Christian classic, and is published by Crossway Books, 2009. The text has been updated to a simpler and perhaps more readable version, but in no way is it an abridgement. As a homeschooling father, I normally object to these new “translations” but I confess that I found nothing to complain of with this edition. The story is complete and the editor even left Bunyan’s scriptural references intact.
The illustrations are beautiful and closely match the story content. While not high art, Mike Wimmer has achieved what, to me, seems like illustrations of the caliber painted by N.C. Wyeth. The details in the pictures are exquisitely delightful.
This version would make a good choice for parents who desire to introduce young children to The Pilgrim’s Progress or who are simply interested in a new telling.
